Welcome to Sleeper Picks. Sleeper’s newest offering promised plenty of entertainment and action, and they delivered. We will break down our top three picks for tonight’s NBA action. Sleeper is quickly becoming one of the most popular season-long fantasy platforms, and they are expanding into other areas based on demand. NBA Sleeper Picks Player Predictions (3/5)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (G – OKC): 24.5 points (alt line)

SGA put a stamp on his MVP bid on Monday night, exploding for his fourth 50+ point outing of the year (for context, no one else in the league has more than one such performance this season). SGA has scored 25 or more points in 28 of his last 30 games and looks primed for another big game against the Memphis Grizzlies. SGA dropped 35 and 32 points on the Grizzlies in their two meetings this year. Slap the More on SGA for Wednesday night basketball.

Donovan Mitchell (G – CLE): 3.5 assists (alt line)

Donovan Mitchell was excellent in February, averaging 25.8 points and 5.3 assists per game. As echoed here before, the Spida will be a force as a scorer in the playoffs but needs to continue to keep his teammates involved, especially since he has a higher usage rate than the team’s starting point guard. Donovan has been flashing his playmaking skills recently, dishing out five or more assists in 15 of his last 16 games. Mitchell handed out five and six assists in his two games against the Miami Heat this season. Dap the More on Donovan for Wednesday night at Sleeper Picks.

Cade Cunningham (G – DET): 19.5 points (alt line)

Cade Cunningham’s continued development into a superstar has been a joy to behold. Never short on talent, Cade has put it all together and has the Pistons competing in the Eastern Conference. Cade comes into tonight’s game averaging 25.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 9.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. Cunningham has scored 20 or more points in 21 of his last 24 games played and has an excellent opportunity to hit at least that many tonight against a Los Angeles Clippers team he dropped 32 on two weeks ago. Cardinals’ Kyler Murray hosting 1st annual celebrity softball game for charity

Arizona Cardinals franchise quarterback Kyler Murray is looking to give back through his foundation’s first annual softball game.

Slated for May 17 at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale, the Kyler Murray Foundation’s softball game is expected to include fellow Cardinals Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride and James Conner and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens, among other celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds.

All proceeds for the game will go directly toward benefitting local programs in underserved communities.

“This game is about bringing the community together while supporting causes that matter,” Murray said in press release. “I’m excited to share this experience with fans, friends and fellow athletes while making a positive impact in Arizona.”

Those planning to attend can also enjoy music, concessions, games, chess and other activities in the “fan zone.”

Murray is embarking on his seventh season as Arizona’s starting quarterback. He completed 68.8% of his passes for 3,851 yards and 21 touchdowns to 11 interceptions last season. The signal caller also ran for 572 yards and five scores on 78 carries.

He finished 10th in Comeback Player of the Year voting.

Corbin Carroll considered day-to-day, Kendall Graveman imaging comes back clean

SCOTTSDALE — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is considered day-to-day after leaving Sunday’s Cactus League game at the Texas Rangers with lower back tightness, manager Torey Lovullo said on Monday.

Carroll received Monday off, while the club does not play on Tuesday. He will continue to receive treatment and be evaluated to jump back in later this week.

“It’s just the tightness, there’s no imaging that was necessary and we felt like with some rest and getting back into his rhythm and routine … he’s going to be fine,” Lovullo said.

Carroll is off to a scorching start this spring, hitting 6-for-12 with three home runs and two steals in five games.

Diamondbacks reliever Kendall Graveman underwent imaging for back tightness, and Lovullo said the tests came back clean.

“There’s nothing that is going to be alarming enough for there to be a major setback,” Lovullo said. “Just going to step away to recuperate and get that mid back tightness out of there.

“He’s in the treatment phase, and he’ll come out as soon as he possibly can. We have a lot of time to recover from this injury. We know he’s working hard, and we’ll get him back out there as soon as possible.”

Graveman signed a one-year deal at the start of spring training to add depth to Arizona’s bullpen. The veteran reliever missed all of 2024 with shoulder surgery.

The right-hander worked a 3.12 ERA with eight saves back in 2023. He has yet to make his Cactus League debut for the Diamondbacks.

Jordan Montgomery steps onto the mound

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery took on live hitters for the first time this spring on Monday at Salt River Fields. He faced catcher Aramis Garcia three times and first baseman Pavin Smith twice.

The next step for him is to be determined, but he will either throw another live batting practice session or get in a game.

Montgomery showed up to camp with a strained left index finger, so his ramp up to the regular season has been a bit behind his fellow starting pitchers.

“I thought after the first four or five pitches, he started to find the zone in and follow the glove and did a good job,” Lovullo said. “There were, in particular, some good breaking balls I saw him throw that had good shape and good finish in the hitting zone. It’s hard to evaluate. I don’t want it to move too fast. I want to be sensitive to this entire process and tell you he’s on the right track.”

GCU opts in to proposed House v. NCAA settlement

Grand Canyon announced Monday that it will opt in to the proposed House v. NCAA settlement that, if approved on April 7, would allow GCU to directly provide NIL payments to student-athletes.

“Opting in to the settlement will strengthen the continued ascent of GCU’s athletic teams and continue shining a national spotlight on the university,” GCU said in a statement.

“GCU’s successful financial model as a nonprofit institution has allowed it to operate the university efficiently without relying on traditional revenue sources such as endowments or state taxpayer subsidies – while also re-investing nearly $2 billion into academic infrastructure without raising tuition on its Phoenix campus for 17 straight years. The additional investments in its athletics programs under the proposed House settlement will be sourced from both existing and new streams of athletic-related revenue and will not be passed along to its students. Sources of athletics revenue include ticket sales, corporate sponsorship, a loyal and growing donor base, NCAA revenues and future Mountain West Conference media rights distributions.”

A hearing in federal court is set for April 7. Judge Claudia Wilken will decide whether to issue final approval to the terms in House v. NCAA.

The settlement will allow schools, in a revolutionary twist for college sports, to directly pay up to an estimated $20.5 million to athletes for NIL in the 2025-26 school year. Schools that choose to do so will also be subject to the roster limits.

The NCAA has agreed to a $2.576 billion class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims it violated antitrust laws by limiting the amount of compensation college athletes could receive. The settlement backpay would benefit athletes who competed in Division I between June 15, 2016, and Sept. 15, 2024.

The case is named after lead plaintiff Grant House, a former Arizona State swimmer.

Which schools are already part of the settlement?

The power conferences are already listed as defendants in the House v. NCAA case.

Arizona State and Arizona as members of the Big 12 thus were already part of the settlement and did not need to declare inclusion like GCU, which currently resides in the WAC.

The SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Pac-12 schools are also part of the settlement.

Most notably, the Ivy League opted not to join the settlement.

Arizona Wildcats continue to fall in AP college rankings

The Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team continues to go the wrong way in The Associated Press’ top 25 released Monday.

The Wildcats came in ranked No. 24, down two spots from last week’s mark.

This marks the third straight week Arizona has fallen in the ranking after being as a high as No. 13 on Feb. 10.

Since then, the Wildcats have come in No. 19 (Feb. 17), No. 22 (Feb. 24) and now No. 24.

Arizona split a pair of games last week with an 83-66 win over Utah only to fall flat in an 84-67 loss to the then-No. 9 ranked Iowa State, which dropped a spot in Monday’s update ranking.

Arizona has two games left on its regular season schedule. It takes on a struggling Arizona State squad on Tuesday before wrapping things up against Kansas on Saturday.

The Wildcats (13-5 Big 12) are currently tied with Texas Tech for second in the Big 12 behind Houston (17-1).

Auburn still atop AP top 25 poll

The Associated Press — Auburn and Duke remain atop the AP Top 25. The rest of the poll was a big jumble.

Auburn was the unanimous pick at No. 1 for the second straight week, receiving all 61 votes from a media panel in the poll released on Monday. The Tigers held the top spot for the eighth straight week following lopsided wins over Ole Miss and then-No. 17 Kentucky.

Duke was No. 2 for the second straight week after blowing out Miami and Florida State despite playing without guard Tyrese Proctor due to a bone bruise in his left knee.

No. 3 Houston moved up a spot after beating Texas Tech and Cincinnati, while Tennessee climbed to No. 4 following Jahmai Mashack’s last-second 3-pointer from well beyond halfcourt to beat Alabama 79-76.

Florida rounded out the top five, dropping two places after losing to Georgia and beating Texas A&M.

No. 8 Michigan State joined Auburn and Duke as the only teams to have the same ranking as last week.

Rising Red Storm

St. John’s has pulled off quite the turnaround in its second season under coach Rick Pitino.

The Red Storm (26-4, 17-2Big East) have not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2019, but are pretty much a lock to end the drought after clinching their first Big East regular-season title in 40 years with Saturday’s 71-61 win over Seton Hall.

“We’re just getting started,” Pitino told the Madison Square Garden crowd after the win.

St. John’s also beat Butler last week and moved up a spot in this week’s poll to No. 6, its highest ranking reaching No. 5 in 1990-91.

Rising and falling

No. 14 Louisville made the biggest move of the week, climbing five places following wins over Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh. No. 13 Maryland moved up three places after losing to Michigan State by three on Tre Holloman’s last-second heave from beyond midcourt and beating Penn State.

No. 22 Texas A&M had by far the biggest drop, losing 10 places after losing to Vanderbilt and Florida, stretching its losing streak to four straight.

No other team dropped more than two places.

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt sets weak Cam Skattebo comps ablaze with fiery PSA

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt has just about had it when it comes to weak NFL comparisons and the words “sneaky athletic” connected to Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo.

So much so that he felt the need to issue a public service announcement “to the world’s table” for all those lazy takes surrounding Skattebo this NFL Draft cycle.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m not going to sit here for the next 52 days and hear Cameron Skattebo in the same sentence as deceptively fast or sneaky athletic. It’s already happening and I don’t like it. I don’t like where it’s going, especially not after what he did at Arizona State and not after what he did in Indianapolis over the weekend.

“Remember what I’m saying. There is not sneaky about a 40-inch vertical jump. 39.5 this guy just jumped. That is better than Adrian Peterson, than Jamaal Charles, than Marshawn (Lynch). It’s better than Christian McCaffrey, who I personally thought drove a stake through the entire heart of the sneaky athletic joke industry, but we’re still here. It needs to stop. It’s not funny anymore, you’ve been doing it for years. It’s not applicable here. Don’t do it.”

Take a second and breathe, Brandt.

As the passionate NFL Network host alluded to, there’s nothing sneaky about what Skattebo put on tape in his final season at ASU.

Across 13 games last year, Skattebo amassed 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries. He also reeled in 45 catches for 605 yards and three touchdowns on top of throwing a 42-yard touchdown in ASU’s Peach Bowl loss to Texas.

For his efforts, the running back earned an All-Big 12 First Team nod and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

He only added to his draft stock this NFL Draft Combine. Despite bypassing most on-the-field drills, Skattebo showed out during the vertical jump of 39.5 inches. He posted a 10-foot-3 broad jump.

“Over the next 52 days, I do not want to hear the name Toby Gerhart a single time,” Brandt said. “Don’t say it! If you’re saying it about Cam Skattebo, you’re mailing in your analysis. You’re lazy. They’re not close to the same prospect. Do not utter the name Peyton Hillis in my presence, stop it! … Do better than just scrolling your nostalgia rolodex for the fastest meathead cracker you can find. You have to do better!

“Lastly, it is possible to describe and analyze young Cameron Skattebo without mentioning the name Mike Alstott. … It’s not the comp!”

Skatt wasn’t oblivious to what Brandt was throwing down on Monday.

“Kyle Brandt, YOU ARE THE MANNNNN!!!!!” the running back posted on social media not long after the PSA went live.

Cam Skattebo’s draft stock

In ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s most recent big board released last week before the combine’s on-the-field work began, Skattebo came in as his eighth-ranked running back.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah did not have Skattebo among his updated top 50 prospects published last week, nor was he a part of the analyst’s two first-round mock drafts this offseason.

Pro Football Focus meanwhile has Skattebo as its 52nd best prospect and third best running back on its big board.

NFL Network draft analyst Lance Zierlein’s breakdown of Skattebo has him in the “good backup with the potential to develop into a starter” tier.
