An investigation found that former Arizona State men’s basketball guard BJ Freeman lent information to another college basketball player and his then-girlfriend to bet on his performances while he was playing for ASU in 2024-25, the NCAA said.
The guard “participated in a negotiated resolution and agreed to his violations” but has permanently lost eligibility, the NCAA said. He had one year of eligibility remaining.
Freeman’s case was tied to that of former Fresno State guard Mykell Robinson, whose phone records indicated that Freeman gave him information to bet on four Sun Devil games from November and December of 2024.
Arizona State’s program was not involved in game manipulation or sports betting.
The investigation found Freeman suggested Robinson or his girlfriend bet the over for turnovers or points on five occasions, which the NCAA deemed as violations involving betting-related game manipulation.
The NCAA also determined Freeman provided false information to investigators.
“When interviewed by enforcement staff, Freeman knowingly provided false or misleading information when he denied sharing information with Robinson and his then-girlfriend,” the NCAA wrote.
“He also denied having a daily fantasy sports account — which was under his name and email address — into which he had made deposits while competing at a previous school.”
Here are the specific violations from the NCAA’s official negotiated resolution.
a. On November 28, 2024, prior to Arizona State’s men’s basketball game against the University of New Mexico (New Mexico), Freeman provided information to Robinson to bet on Freeman’s point totals (over-line) while discussing different performance options for daily fantasy sports proposition (prop) bets.
Freeman scored 16 points and went 4-for-6 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
b. On November 29, 2024, prior to Arizona State’s men’s basketball game against Saint Mary’s College of California, Freeman provided information to Robinson to bet on Freeman’s point totals (over-line) while discussing different performance options for daily fantasy sports prop bets.
Freeman scored 11 points and went 5-of-13 from the field.
c. On December 14, 2024, prior to Arizona State men’s basketball game against the University of Florida (Florida), Freeman provided information to Robinson to bet on Freeman’s turnover totals (over-line) while discussing different performance options for daily fantasy sports prop bets.
Freeman had one turnover in 18 minutes and went 1-of-8 from the field.
d. On December 31, 2024, prior to Arizona State men’s basketball game against Brigham Young University and Fresno State’s men’s basketball game against New Mexico, Freeman provided information to Robinson to bet on Freeman’s point totals (over-line) as part of a three-leg parlay that included a three-pointers-made total (over-line) for Robinson and an assist total (over-line) for another men’s basketball student-athlete at Fresno State. Freeman also provided this information to his then girlfriend to place the same bet.
Freeman scored 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting.
e. On January 4, 2025, prior to Arizona State men’s basketball game against Florida and the University of San Francisco (San Francisco) men’s basketball game against the University of Colorado, Freeman provided information to his then girlfriend to place two bets on Freeman’s point totals (over-line) as part of a two-leg parlay that included a point total (over-line) for one men’s basketball student-athlete at San Francisco and a three-leg parlay that included a point total (over-line) and a three pointers-made total.
Freeman scored 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
The San Diego Padres named former relief pitcher Craig Stammen to be their next manager on Thursday.
Stammen takes over for Mike Shildt, who retired from the role after San Diego’s National League Wild Card Series loss to the Chicago Cubs.
Shildt managed the Padres for two years. The Padres have not had a manager for longer than four seasons sinc Bud Black from 2007-15.
Stammen pitched 13 seasons in the major leagues from 2009-23, including his final six for the Padres. He had recently been working as a special assistant to president of baseball operations A.J. Preller.
The 41-year-old agreed to a three-year contract.
“He possesses deep organizational knowledge and brings natural leadership qualities to the manager’s chair,” Preller said in a press release. “As both a player and in his post-playing career, Craig has displayed an ability to elevate those around him. His strength of character, competitive nature and talent for bringing people together make him the ideal choice to lead the Padres.”
Albert Pujols, Nick and Ruben Niebla were also considered candidates for the role.
Stammen is the second manager hired by a National League West club this offseason. The San Francisco Giants poached former Tennessee Volunteers head coach Tony Vitello as their next skipper in an unprecedented move for a college coach to jump right into skippering a big league club.
The Colorado Rockies remain undecided on what their front office and managerial openings will look like after a 119-loss season. Arizona Diamondbacks assistant general manager Amiel Sawdaye had been in the running for Colorado’s general manager position, but he is reportedly no longer on consideration.
The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, opted to retain manager Torey Lovullo for a 10th season. Lovullo is the second-longest tenured manager in the division, as Dave Roberts has led the Dodgers since 2016, winning the division in nine of his first 10 years.
The Padres are coming off a second-place finish in the division, having won 90 games and falling short of dethroning the 93-win Dodgers. The club has reached the postseason in four of the last six years, but it has not advanced to the NLCS since 2022.
San Diego has many moving parts this offseason in addition to hiring a new manager.
Starting pitchers Michael King and Dylan Cease, closer Robert Suarez, first baseman Ryan O’Hearn and infielder Luis Arraez are all free agents. Starter Yu Darvish is set to miss all of 2026 with elbow surgery.
The Diamondbacks will first take on the Padres next season on April 25. Arizona went 5-8 against San Diego in 2025.
TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals are placing quarterback Kyler Murray on injured reserve with his foot injury, head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Wednesday.
The news comes after Gannon named Jacoby Brissett the Cardinals’ starting quarterback a day prior, citing the offense’s noticeable improvement and Murray’s health status as the primary reasons behind the move.

“This pivot, I would say, is completely predicated on the information that we have now and his health,” Gannon said. “He’s got to fully focus on getting healthy. He’s in a good spot and ready to do that.”
Murray, who has already missed three games with the foot injury suffered in Week 5’s loss to Tennessee, now must miss the next four games:
– At Seattle
– Vs. San Francisco
– Vs. Jacksonville
– At Tampa Bay
The earliest he could return is Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams.
“He wants to play football,” Gannon said when asked how Murray took the IR decision. “I laugh with him. He likes to be at recess not in the classroom. Recess for him is on the grass.
“Not to say he doesn’t like the classroom, … he’s phenomenal in the meeting room. If you ask him, ‘What’s your favorite thing to do?’ it’s probably be on the grass and play football, so that’s hard for him. But he understands.”
Murray’s time on the shelf could extend beyond that stretch, however.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Murray’s foot injury has a recovery timeline of four to eight weeks. Schefter adds there is an increased chance at reaggravating the injury.
But even if Murray was healthy, Brissett had more than earned the right to start another game.
In the veteran’s three fill-in performances, Brissett completed 65.7% of his throws for 860 yards and six touchdowns to one interception. He’s also ran the rock 14 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Arizona also released offensive lineman Nick Leverett from its practice squad on Wednesday.
Dillon Brooks has picked up quite a few technical fouls throughout his career — 85, to be exact.
So, Isaiah Livers took action the moment he heard Brooks start yelling at referee Brett Nansel during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s 118-107 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Livers quickly covered Brooks’ mouth, then tried to claim any foul words were simply being directed his way.
The valiant effort failed, and Brooks received a technical despite not even being in uniform for the game with a core injury.

Livers and Brooks are both in their first season in Phoenix. Livers signed a two-way contract in July, while Brooks came over in the Kevin Durant trade.
Despite their short time together, Livers had gotten familiar with Brooks before the season. He explained on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo that he picked up on the kind of player Brooks was early on.
“Day one, I got the vibe from him that he don’t back down from nothing,” Livers said Thursday. “This is, like, summer league and you would think guys are kind of chill. That dude (Brooks) is up under you. … He’s physical. He talks.”
The only lead the Suns held over the Warriors was at 5-0 in the first quarter. They cut the Golden State lead, which ballooned as high as 25, to single digits a couple times, trailing by nine at the time of the tech.
Devin Booker did note after the game that Brooks apologized for the technical foul.
“Just in general, any fourth quarter techs, whether you’re playing or not, you should just try to stay away from,” Booker said. “He addressed the team, said it was selfish. We move forward.”

The key to long-term success isn’t just drafting well; it’s trading well. This weekly article is your go-to guide to navigating the dynasty trade market and increasing roster value through trades. Below, I’ll cover two actionable “buy-low” targets and “sell-high” recommendations from a dynasty lens. Let’s dive in and make some profitable deals.
Believe it or not, DraftKings Sportsbook has the Baltimore Ravens at -140 odds to win their division this year, despite their 3-5 start. The AFC North is especially weak this year, and with Lamar Jackson back at the helm, it’s expected that Baltimore goes on a big run in the second half of the season. This is great news for alpha wide receiver Zay Flowers. The third-year receiver out of Boston College is currently sitting as the WR24 in PPR points per game this season, and this is with Cooper Rush and Tyler Huntley under center for half the year.
Flowers is one of the most dynamic route runners in the NFL. His 29.8% target share ranks eighth amongst wide receivers, and his 2.45 yards per route run ranks 10th overall. Flowers has managed to post over 13 PPR points per game through eight weeks despite only finding the end zone once. Flowers has never been a major red-zone threat, but we can expect some positive regression in the touchdown department now that Jackson is healthy. He is currently valued as the dynasty WR26 on KeepTradeCut, a community-sourced ranking site. Flowers is my WR18, presenting and an excellent buy window for the young ascending star.
Finally, a Colston Loveland breakout game. After failing to hit double-digit fantasy points in his first six NFL games, the rookie tight end out of Michigan came through in a big way in Week 9. Loveland posted nearly 30 PPR points, including the game-winning touchdown over the Cincinnati Bengals. He showed us exactly why he was a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and while his dynasty price tag has increased, we’re far from peak value.
While I’m bullish on Loveland’s long-term outlook, I’m not ready to put him in the Trey McBride and Tyler Warren tier yet. Yes, this six-reception, two-touchdown performance was a massive step forward for the rookie, but we have to keep in mind the game script. This game was a shootout, with Chicago scoring 47 points. Loveland managed just a 20% target rate despite all his raw production, and this was with Rome Odunze seeing only three targets. There’s still a ton of target competition in Chicago for Loveland to deal with.
I do think Loveland is a Flex-worthy play rest of season, but I’m much more excited about him in 2026 and beyond. The Bears can get out of Cole Kmet‘s contract after this season, and with Ben Johnson hand-selecting Loveland for his offense, I expect we’ll see him as the focal point in this receiving game by next season. He’s already seen an over 80% snap rate in back-to-back games. I’d be willing to sell a mid-to-late first-round rookie pick for Loveland in TE-Premium formats. I would also be comfortable selling someone like George Kittle or Jake Ferguson, plus a mid-round rookie pick, to tier up to Loveland. I have him as my dynasty TE5 overall, right after Sam LaPorta.
There’s no doubt Javonte Williams has been one of the biggest “winners” of the 2025 season from a fantasy sense. Before the season, we weren’t even sure Williams would win the job over Miles Sanders, and now he’s sitting as the RB6 overall in PPR formats. If you held Williams on your dynasty team through all the injuries and struggles in Denver, you were finally rewarded for your extreme patience.
If you currently roster Williams and are not one of the top four teams in your league, I think now would be a great time to get out while you’re ahead. He is currently valued as the dynasty RB17 on KeepTradeCut, in line with a late first-round pick, just after Zay Flowers. (If you can somehow flip Williams for Flowers, please do that now.)
Ultimately, this is still a running back who signed a one-year deal for backup money, and someone who has torn his ACL and LCL. We’re years removed from that knee injury, and I’m not one to shy away from buying a player due to hypothetical injury concerns. Still, there’s no denying that Williams’ dynasty value is one injury away from plummeting to nearly zero. There’s just no value insulation here.
If you’re in the running for a bye week, it’s probably worth hanging onto the production for now. However, if you’re a middling team, I’d see if you can sell Williams for a projected late-first (any year). You could also see if adding a depth piece or a late-round pick gets you into that “first-round” conversation.
If you’re a DJ Moore owner in dynasty, I highly encourage you to shop him around following his big Week 9 performance. Before this game, Moore had yet to hit 13 PPR points all year. He still has yet to see over seven targets in a single game this season, which means if he’s not scoring touchdowns, he will have difficulty meeting fantasy expectations.
Moore is sitting with just a 17.3% target share (WR57) and 9.3 expected fantasy points per game (WR50). We must expect Luther Burden to continue getting ramped up once he returns from concussion protocol, which will directly impact Moore’s opportunity share. Moore will be 29 before next season and will likely be phased out of this offense if he’s still in Chicago.
Regarding trade opportunities, I don’t think a late-first is on the table, but I would start negotiations with a couple of seconds and go from there. If we’re looking at players, I would be willing to trade Moore for Burden straight up. I would also look to tier down to Troy Franklin and get a plus on top. If you’re contending but want more reliable production, see if you can add a late-round pick on top of Moore to tier up to Davante Adams.
