Corbin Carroll crushes 2nd homer of day in Diamondbacks-Rockies series finale

Corbin Carroll was locked in at the plate Sunday, as he crushed his second home run of the day in the sixth inning of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ series finale against the Colorado Rockies.

With the Diamondbacks up 3-0 in the fourth inning, Carroll hit a 94-mph fastball off Rockies righty Michael Lorenzen into the Colorado bullpen for his sixth homer of the season to make it 5-0.

In his next at-bat, Carroll crushed a cutter off Rockies reliever Blas Castano that went nearly 450 feet to extend the Diamondbacks’ lead to 8-2. His second homer of the day marked the ninth-career multi-home run game of Carroll’s career. His last multi-homer game came on June 3 last season against the Atlanta Braves.

Carroll’s offensive outburst was a welcome sight for the Diamondbacks after Arizona left 10 runners on base and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position in a 4-2 loss to the Rockies Saturday. In addition to Carroll’s home runs, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit his first dinger of the season in the fifth inning.

Start of Diamondbacks-Rockies rubber match delayed due to weather

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ rubber match against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday was delayed due to weather.

“As we look outside the radio booth right now, tons of dark and not the most welcoming clouds,” Diamondbacks play-by-play voice Chris Garagiola said pregame.

Michael Soroka was set to take the mound for Arizona coming off one earned run over his last 12.2 innings pitched (two starts). He will face right-hander Michael Lorenzen (6.55 ERA).

When the delay is over, catch the action on 98.7, the Arizona Sports app or online.

The D-backs won the series opener, 9-1, Friday behind Merrill Kelly’s first career complete game before the Rockies took Game 2, 4-2, on Saturday.
