Arizona to play 3 exhibitions in Lithuania this summer

Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball is headed to Lithuania in August for a trio of exhibition games.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to bring our program to Lithuania in August,” Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd said in a press release Monday. “Not just because it is a special country with incredible people, but because they have a strong passion for the game of basketball just like Arizona fans.

“We look forward to immersing ourselves in the Lithuanian culture, with the added bonus of being able to play a couple exhibition games against some great competition.”

As part of the USA College Lithuania Tour, the Wildcats will play against the national teams of both Lithuania and Ukraine.

Arizona will open play against the Lithuania B team on Aug. 19 before taking on the Ukraine senior national team on Aug. 20.

The Wildcats will wrap up exhibition play against the Lithuania senior national team on Aug. 22.

The men’s senior team for Lithuania has never played against a college team.

The trip to Lithuania, which will include stops in Kaunas and Palanga, also means a return for big man Montiejus Krivas, who is from Lithuania and played for club team Zalgiris Kaunas before heading to Arizona.

“This will be a very special trip for me,” Krivas said. “Being able to have my teammates and coaches visit my home country is something I never thought would happen.

“I am grateful to the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, Complete Sports Management and Coach Lloyd for making it possible. I can’t wait to show everyone what an amazing country Lithuania is and how much we love basketball.”

Start times, and broadcast options will be announced at a later date.
