Week 9 Early Waiver Wire Claims (2026 Fantasy Football)

Week 9 Early Waiver Wire Claims (2026 Fantasy Football)

Welcome back to an early look at the Waiver Wire following Week 8’s early slate of games! Every player on this list is rostered in fewer than 40% of leagues and played in Sunday’s early slate or earlier.

Week 9 Early Waiver Wire Claims (2026 Fantasy Football)

Adonai Mitchell (WR – NYJ) (11.4%)

Mitchell missed four games and returned last weekend but didn’t record a catch. Today was a different story. He caught seven of nine targets for 142 yards and a touchdown. If he has another big game next weekend, I’m sure it will be hard to find Mitchell on waiver wires.

Ryan Flournoy (WR – DAL) (22.1%)

Flournoy is quickly becoming more than a CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens insurance policy. He’s playing most of the offensive snaps, and Dallas’ offense ranks in the top 10 in total yards per game. He caught a touchdown today, too. Going forward, Flournoy is a flex option, but if Lamb or Pickens ever miss a game, Flournoy’s stock skyrockets.

San Francisco 49ers D/ST (36.5% rostered)
New York Giants D/ST (3.6%)
New Orleans Saints D/ST (2.1%)

These teams were all on bye this weekend, which means they have an extra week to get healthy and prepare. The 49ers host the Raiders next weekend, the Saints host the Browns, and the Giants travel to Philadelphia. I’m comfortable starting each of these three teams given their post-bye matchups.

Geno Smith (QB – NYJ) (32.8%)

I have to include Smith because he’s averaging 21 points per game over his last two games. The Jets have solid weapons around him, too. However, the Jets travel to Kansas City next weekend and host Buffalo after that. I’m not stoked about starting Smith in either of those games.

Brian Thomas Jr. (WR – JAC) (39.8%)

BTJ went from being the 23rd overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft and catching 1,200+ yards as a rookie to barely playing half of Jacksonville’s offensive snaps. I’m not sure if his touchdown today is a sign of a resurgence, but there’s at least a chance he gets traded to a better situation. I wouldn’t prioritize BTJ unless you’re willing to sit him until there’s trade news.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. (RB – JAC) (12.6%)

Rodriguez is a trusted runner in Jacksonville, including in many goal-line situations. His downside is that he’s not a pass catcher. However, the Jaguars get the Ravens next week, who could be missing both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. If that’s the case, the Jaguars are likely to be heavy favorites and could spend the game killing the clock by running the ball. Rodriguez could be a sneaky flex start next week.

Justice Hill (RB – BAL) (7.8%)

Hill is on the field for most of Baltimore’s obvious passing situations and has played fewer than 40% of the snaps just twice this season. Both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley left the game, so things got a little weird with rookie Joe Fagnano under center. However, Hill was targeted eight times today. His receiving work gives him just enough juice to be worth an add in deep leagues (12+ teams).

Also, if Lamar Jackson returns soon, he’ll be playing through an injury. That could mean Jackson is more likely to check down to Hill under pressure rather than scramble.

Mike Washington Jr. (RB – LV) (17.6%)

Washington out-touched Ashton Jeanty six to zero in the first quarter of today’s game. Whether the Raiders are getting more comfortable with rookie Washington, want to limit Jeanty’s workload, or a bit of both, it’s a good sign for Washington managers. It will be hard to predict the split assuming both backs are healthy, but at worst, Washington is an elite handcuff for Jeanty managers.
