Defensive end Calais Campbell returned to the Arizona Cardinals to make an impact on the field in Year 18 in the NFL, but he also will be impacting the Valley off the field during the 2025 season.
On the eve of Arizona’s first game at the New Orleans Saints, Campbell announced he will be donating upwards of $100,000 to nine Phoenix homeless-focused nonprofits.
The launching of “Calais Comes Home: A Homecoming with Heart” will target the more than 9,000 people in Maricopa County experiencing homelessness, according to a press release.
“Coming back to Arizona feels like coming home, and I want to help others find their way home, too,” Campbell said in a statement. “This community embraced me when I started my NFL career, and now I have the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way. Every tackle, every sack, every win becomes a chance to change lives and bring another family closer to feeling safe and at home.”
How will Calais Campbell give back to Phoenix homeless shelters?
Campbell’s community initiative will have team and individual checkpoints when donating this season.
Eight shelters will benefit from the in-game success on a two-week rotation throughout the season, receive two home game tickets and have their nonprofits spotlighted on Campbell’s personal and Charles Richard Campbell Foundation social media accounts.
A look at what on-the-field performance will positively impact local homeless shelters:
- $2,000 for every team win
- $2,000 for every Campbell tackle for loss
- $5,000 for every Campbell fumble recovery
- $10,000 for every Campbell interception or blocked kick.
The following homeless shelters will be included in the initiative:
- UMOM New Day Centers
- Family Promise
- AZCEND
- Gilbert Advocacy Center
- Tempe Community Action Agency
- One Small Step
- Paz de Cristo
- South Pointe Elementary School.
Mesa’s House of Refuge, the ninth shelter involved, will be a season-long partner for Campbell.
It will receive $5,000 for every Campbell sack and $2,500 for every Campbell half-sack.
According to the release, it costs House of Refuge $15,000 to maintain each one of its 88 two-bedroom homes.
Campbell is a six-time Pro Bowler and was the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
