Jordyn Tyson to begin ramp up to game speed ahead of Colorado matchup

TEMPE — Wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will begin running at game speed ahead of Arizona State’s upcoming road matchup against Colorado as he works back from a hamstring injury.

“He’s gonna start back through his running progression this week where he’s actually running back to try to get back to play,” head coach Kenny Dillingham said Monday. “What that means for the game, I don’t know yet. We’ve got to see that progression and what it looks like.

“Not 70% running, but starting to (really) run. Right now what you see on the sideline, I know he gets excited, but truly moving to play the game. … I want to make sure we progress him back at I think the speed best for him to be 100% if he comes back or whenever that happens.”

Tyson has been seen running and jumping on the sideline while out with the injury, and Dillingham was asked postgame about going out of his way to protect injured players.

“These are still kids, man,” Dillingham said Saturday. “If he jumps a little too high in excitement for his teammates, like, alright. If that’s the worst thing we do, I’m going to sleep pretty good at night.”

Despite missing the last three games, Tyson remains second among Big 12 players with eight receiving touchdowns, and he’s added a rushing touchdown. His 57 receptions also rank second, gaining 628 yards (12th in Big 12).

At the time of his injury, he led the Big 12 in all three stats and accounted for 75% of the receptions by an ASU wide receiver.

He also led college football in receiving yards over the second half of last regular season, finishing the year with 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns on 75 catches.

Tyson was unable to play in the 2024 postseason due to a collarbone injury he suffered in the Territorial Cup.
