Bobby Hurley loses his necktie and Jaden Bradley responds as ASU, Arizona trade technical fouls

TEMPE — Bobby Hurley erupted at a technical foul late in the first half of ASU-Arizona on Saturday, and his necktie got the worst of it.

Hurley was upset about a light foul call on Adam Miller, although officials had established that both teams would get those types of calls earlier in the half.

Less than 75 seconds later, Arizona was assessed its own technical foul as Jaden Bradley stared down the Arizona State bench after a tough finish at the rim.

The technical fouls were the result of a chippy first half that was as back-and-forth on the court as it was in the stands at a Desert Financial Arena that Wildcat fans had invaded.

Caleb Love, who finished the half with a team-high nine points, hit a 3 late and threw the Sun Devils’ fork down before Basheer Jihad ended the half with a bucket to pull his team back within one.

ASU, Arizona trade blows in first half

Arizona had the early advantage in the game with a 6-for-15 start as a team with everyone contributing as ASU’s offense faltered with a 2-for-15 stretch.

BJ Freeman, who was a game-time decision, got the Sun Devils back in it with a 9-0 run by himself to give ASU an 18-17 lead about two minutes ahead of the technical foul trading. He had a team-high

Freshman center Jayden Quaintance also played as a game-time decision and finished the half with three points and five rebounds.
