Arizona replaces Houston at No. 2 in AP Top 25 following impressive road win

The Arizona Wildcats took Houston’s spot at No. 2 in The Associated Press’ Top 25 after they took down the Cougars in Texas on Saturday.

Houston fell to No. 5, right behind No. 4 Iowa State after the Cyclones took their matchup with the Cougars ahead of Arizona-Houston earlier in the week, making three Big 12 teams in the top five.

Duke, which beat then-No. 1 Michigan on Saturday, took the Wolverines’ spot at the top after that day included a potential Final Four preview beyond the Big 12 matchup.

Arizona received five first-place votes, while the Blue Devils topped the other 56 ballots.

UConn fell one spot to No. 6 after a week that included a home loss to Creighton, while reigning national champion Florida leapt five spots to No. 7 to return to the top 10 for the first time since late November. The Gators were ranked No. 3 in the preseason and spent a week among the unranked in early January. They have won seven straight and 12 of 13.

Purdue, Gonzaga and Illinois rounded out the top 10.

Texas Tech fell three spots to No. 16 after its week included an upset loss at Arizona State and a torn ACL to star forward JT Toppin ahead of blowing out Kansas State.

No. 14 Kansas and No. 19 BYU made six total Big 12 teams to lead all conferences, headlined by the top-five trio. UCF was the only Big 12 team among the others receiving votes (three).

Miami (OH) continued its undefeated start to the season with 27 wins and moved up one spot to No. 21 with four remaining games in its regular season.
