Former Arizona Wildcats Carter Bryant, Keshad Johnson to take part in NBA All-Star dunk contest

The NBA revealed the four participants in this year’s AT&T Slam Dunk Contest and two are former Arizona Wildcats in Carter Bryant (San Antonio Spurs) and Keshad Johnson (Miami Heat).

The annual high-flying contest part of the league’s All-Star festivities is set for Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. MST from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

Like the other two dunkers, Jaxon Hayes of the Los Angles Lakers and Jase Richardson of the Orlando Magic, Bryant and Johnson are first-timers at the event.

Bryant was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and has played in 40 games, averaging 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 8.6 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-6 rookie played in all 37 of Arizona’s games last season and was one of five freshmen in the nation with at least 200 points, 35 assists, 35 blocks and 35 steals.

Bryant will be able to show off his vertical leap as he did in the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. His standing max vertical was recorded at 39.5 inches, and he definitely won’t be holding back for the judges in the upcoming contest.

Johnson is a second pro with Miami who went undrafted in 2024. He has played in 21 games this season (37 in his career) and is averaging 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.6 minutes per game.

He joined the Heat on a two-way contract before inking a two-year deal midseason in 2024 and has a team option this season.

Johnson, who also stands at 6-foot-6, logged his first career double-double (14 points and 11 rebounds) this season in a 143-107 win over the Chicago Bulls.

The 24-year-old closed out his collegiate days at Arizona as a fifth-year senior for the 2023-24 season after four years at San Diego State. He averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds and started all 36 games for the Wildcats.

Johnson gave Heat fans a taste of what is possible against the Boston Celtics at the 2024 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. He left the floor from just inside of the free-throw line and threw down a one-handed jam.

Mac McClung, three-time reigning champion, will not be participating after taking the title in Utah, Indianapolis and San Francisco.

Devin Booker is a reserve on the USA Stars All-Star team, and the new mini-tournament format for the All-Star game will begin at 3 p.m. MST on Feb. 15.
