University of Arizona, head coach Brent Brennan agree to extension through 2030

The University of Arizona and head coach Brent Brennan agreed to an extension through the 2030 season, the school announced on Friday.

Brennan’s extension will reportedly pay him $4.7 million per year, an increase from the original $3.5 million per season he was making.

Brennan will get a $200,000 bonus for every season Arizona wins at least eight games during the regular season in each additional year of the contract, according to AZ Desert Swarm’s Brian Pedersen.

247Sports’ Jason Scheer reported Brennan will jump from the 13th highest paid coach in the Big 12 to the middle of the conference.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Seth Doege and defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales also reportedly agreed to contract extensions through the 2028 seasons.

Brennan’s salary pool for assistants is now at $6 million, up from the $4.25 million it was prior to the extension.

The Wildcats finished 9-4 this past season and ended the regular season with a five-game winning streak before falling 24-19 to SMU in the Holiday Bowl.

The turnaround in 2025 came after a 4-8 campaign in 2024, Brennan’s first season with the Wildcats.

Brennan was hired by former athletic director Dave Heeke, in one of Heeke’s final moves before he was replaced on an interim basis by Mike Candrea before the hiring of DesireĆ© Reed-Francois.

Prior to his time in Tucson, Brennan was the head coach at San Jose State for seven seasons, where he posted a 34-48 record.

Gonzales was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2025 after serving as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach atArizona for one season.

Gonzales led the Wildcats to the second-fewest total yards (4,011) in the Big 12 and the fewest passing yards per game (165.3).

Doege was hired following the 2024 season and the former Texas Tech quarterback helped the Wildcats to the third-most points per game (31.5) in the Big 12 and the fifth-most yards per game (407.6).

Arizona starts the 2026 season against Northern Arizona at home on Sept. 5 with quarterback Noah Fifita returning for his senior season.
