The Arizona Diamondbacks have made a series of roster moves to address their bullpen on Sunday.
Those moves include selecting reliever Scott McGough, optioning top-ranked pitching prospect Yilber Diaz to Triple-A Reno and designating reliever J.P. Feyereisen for assignment.
Arizona tweaked the roster after Arizona’s bullpen blew a 6-2 lead on Saturday. The Diamondbacks went on to lose 8-7 in extra innings.
The 35-year-old McGough has made 89 appearances for the Diamondbacks over the past two seasons with a 5.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 103 innings but is yet to pitch at the big-league level in 2025.
The reliever was signed to a minor league deal in the offseason after he entered free agency. His $4 million mutual option with the club for 2025 was previously declined.
Over nine games with the Reno Aces in 2025, he holds a 5.23 ERA in 10.1 innings. He has not allowed a home run and has given up three walks with 15 strikeouts.
Feyereisen has pitched in two games for the Diamondbacks this season. In his first appearance, he came in to pitch the ninth inning in a 6-2 loss against the Chicago Cubs on Apri 19. He did not allow a run and gave up one hit.
But in his second appearance, on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays, the right hander surrendered three runs (two earned), including a home run in the 10th inning of a 7-4 loss. Feyereisen was optioned to Reno after Thursday’s game.
Diaz was called up on Thursday and pitched three innings in an 8-2 loss to Atlanta. He allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in his only appearance. The No. 4 prospect on the Diamondbacks’ MLB Pipeline list has also made five starts with the Aces this season, where he holds a 5.82 ERA in 21.2 innings.
The 24-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut last season, when he registered a 3.81 ERA in 28.1 innings.
The Diamondbacks and Braves conclude their three-game series at 1:10 p.m. on Sunday. Brandon Pfaadt will pitch against Atlanta’s Spencer Schwellenbach.
