Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pickups

Rostered in 30-49% of Leagues

Davion Mitchell (PG – MIA)

The Miami Heat are off to a 0-3 start, and Davion Mitchell has been a bright spot. The starting point guard is averaging 14.5 points on 45.5% shooting, eight assists, one rebound and 1.5 blocks per game.

Mitchell could remain a viable fantasy option all season, especially with Miami’s fast-paced style, which should create plenty of opportunities to rack up assists and contribute across multiple categories. His role as the team’s starting point guard and secure minutes also give him a solid foundation for consistent production.

Paul Reed (PF, C – DET)

Paul Reed showed his potential with an expanded role on Friday, finishing with 19 points (8-of-11 shooting, 1-of-1 free throws), 11 rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes in a 128-111 win over the Miami Heat. He received additional minutes after Jalen Duren exited with a hamstring strain and no clear timeline for his return.

As long as Duren remains sidelined, Reed is a strong short-term waiver wire addition and is expected to start at center for the Detroit Pistons. He’s already shown his upside with increased minutes and could provide valuable points and rebounds while Duren recovers.

Naji Marshall (SG, SF, PF – DAL)

The Dallas Mavericks are already dealing with several injuries, with Caleb Martin (thumb), Dereck Lively II (foot), Santi Aldama (knee) and Cooper Flagg (shoulder) all considered week-to-week. Naji Marshall has averaged 31 minutes through the team’s first three games, posting 15.5 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals per game.

Marshall should continue to see consistent playing time for the foreseeable future while Dallas navigates its injury issues. He’s an excellent waiver wire target in category leagues, as his ability to contribute across multiple statistical categories gives him added fantasy value.

Egor Demin (PG, SG – BKN)

Egor Demin struggled in his season opener, finishing with four points (2-of-10 shooting), four rebounds, two assists and one steal. However, the 20-year-old bounced back on Saturday, recording 22 points (5-of-10 shooting, 7-of-7 free throws), four rebounds and six assists. He’s averaged 28 minutes in his first two games and has shown his playmaking skills, making him a player to monitor on the waiver wire.

Demin flashed plenty of upside as a rookie, especially with his excellent passing. If he can build on Saturday’s performance and become a more consistent scorer in year two, he could deliver more productive, consistent outings. He’s especially worth a look in high score and lock-in mode formats, where his upside could make him a valuable addition.

Tristan da Silva (SF, PF – ORL)

The Orlando Magic received unfortunate news on Saturday: Paolo Banchero will miss the next 4-6 weeks with a right high-ankle sprain. While his absence is a significant blow early in the season, it gives Tristan da Silva a chance to take on a bigger role.

The Magic forward could step into the starting lineup and see more playing time while Banchero recovers. He’s already averaged 28.5 minutes through Orlando’s first two games, giving him a solid foundation to build on. He’s worth monitoring on the waiver wire as he looks to capitalize on the expanded opportunity.

Dennis Schroder (PG, SG – CHA)

With Coby White (calf) and Kon Knueppel (hamstring) sidelined to begin the season, Dennis Schroder has stepped into the starting lineup and delivered two strong performances. In Saturday’s 115-110 win over the Miami Heat, he delivered 25 points, six rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes.

The 33-year-old is a short-term fantasy rental until White and Knueppel return, but he’s already showcased the upside he can provide with an expanded role. Schroder is worth adding for managers seeking an immediate boost.
