Fantasy Football Start’em, Sit’em Lineup Advice: Chig Okonkwo, Greg Dulcich, Mason Taylor

Here’s our fantasy football Week 8 outlook for a few tight ends to help with lineup decisions.

Chigoziem Okonkwo (TE – WSH)

We recommended Chigoziem Okonkwo last week, and he’s worth another look heading into Week 8. Washington had a bye in Week 7, but the factors that made Okonkwo an intriguing option haven’t changed.

The Commanders have been dealing with the loss of Terry McLaurin, creating opportunities for other pass-catchers to take on more responsibility. Okonkwo had already put together back-to-back encouraging performances before the bye, and his ability to contribute on shorter and intermediate routes makes him a great candidate for additional targets.

This week, he faces the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Washington could find itself throwing frequently against a Philadelphia defense that just got torched by Dallas, potentially creating additional opportunities for Okonkwo.

At just 17% rostered, Okonkwo is an inexpensive streaming option who could offer more production than tight ends who are relying entirely on touchdowns.

Greg Dulcich (TE – MIA)

Greg Dulcich delivered one of his best performances of the season in Week 7, catching all five of his targets for 86 yards against the New York Jets. He led Miami in receptions, receiving yards and targets, which is especially encouraging for fantasy managers searching for a tight end with a weekly role.

Dulcich has now received at least five targets in three of his last four games, with at least 55 receiving yards in two of those contests. He has 18 receptions for 213 yards this season, averaging a respectable 11.8 yards per reception. The biggest problem is that he hasn’t scored a touchdown yet.

Miami’s passing offense hasn’t exactly been a fantasy gold mine, but Dulcich’s growing involvement gives him some appeal heading into a Week 8 matchup against New England. If he can maintain his recent target share and finally find the end zone, he will deliver another strong fantasy performance.

At only 5% rostered, Dulcich is one of the more interesting deep-league streaming options this week, especially for fantasy managers who prefer chasing targets and receiving yards over hoping for a touchdown on one or two catches like Mike Gesicki.

Mason Taylor (TE – NYJ)

Mason Taylor apparently decided National Tight Ends Day was the perfect opportunity to remind everyone he exists. The Jets tight end delivered a huge Week 7 performance against Miami, catching five of his six targets for 62 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a successful two-point conversion.

The encouraging part is that Taylor’s performance wasn’t entirely out of nowhere. Since returning in Week 5, he had established himself ahead of rookie Kenyon Sadiq, running a route on 58.8% of dropbacks and commanding a 15% target share over his first two games back. Sadiq had just a 29.4% route participation rate during that time.

Taylor now faces the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, giving him a chance to build on his breakout. We don’t expect another two touchdowns, but his growing role in the passing game makes him particularly interesting.

At just 1% rostered, Taylor is almost certainly available in your league. He’s an excellent speculative addition for fantasy managers who need a Week 8 streamer and potentially someone who could become a more consistent fantasy contributor over the second half of the season.
